Their first gig at The Top Ten Club. This trip was a nightmare to arrange because they still had criminal complaints hanging over them. Luckily Peter Eckhorn was so desperate to get them back into his club he forked out 158 Deutschmarks to cover the cost of Pete and Paul’s flight home. The immigration department then lifted the restriction and let them back in – on the proviso that they didn’t get into any more trouble!

He paid the band three quid fifty a day, but because they’d arranged it themselves back in 1960, they refused to pay Allan Williams his cut. They tried to keep it quiet for a while, but he started getting suspicious when he noticed that his ten quid a week wasn’t going in the bank.
