The Decca audition. Things got off to a bad start when Decca’s A&R man turned up late. Brian had the Beatles wearing smart suits and flash haircuts, and gone was the silly horseplay that usually accompanied their Cavern Club performances. He also made sure he personally selected their set to highlight their ‘versatility’. He had them doing: ‘Like Dreamers Do’ (an early Lennon/McCartney composition); ‘Money’; ‘Till There Was You’; ‘The Sheik Of Araby’; ‘To Know Her Is To Love Her’; ‘Take Good Care Of My Baby’; ‘Memphis, Tennessee’; ‘Sure To Fall (In Love With You)’; ‘Hello Little Girl’ (another early Lennon/McCartney composition); ‘Three Cool Cats’; ‘Crying, Waiting, Hoping’; ‘Love Of The Loved’ (yet ‘another’ Lennon/McCartney song!); ‘September In The Rain’; ‘Besame Mucho’, and …
