Koschmeider somehow found out about their Top Ten scheming, and decided to sack them on the spot. He pointed to their jamming sessions with Sheridan at The Top Ten, and cited a clause in their contract that forbade them performing within 25 miles of his club. He promptly gave them one months notice – effectively kicking them out of their digs by the 30th. But he didn’t want his rival-club to benefit, so he went and told the coppers that George was underage as well. What an arsehole!

Koschmeider often gets a bad press in Beatles books for kicking them out of Hamburg, but I’d feel guilty if I didn’t at least ‘mention’ his extenuating circumstances… It seems that Peter Eckhorn (the owner of the Top Ten) had been poaching his staff ever since it opened. He’d already nicked the …
