John took part in The Rolling Stones’ Rock ‘n’ Roll Circus. Mick Jagger wore his ringmaster’s outfit, and John was dressed up in a juggler’s coat. Yoko was kitted out as a witch. They also had some midgets, some fire-eaters, lions and tigers and acrobats swinging over their heads whilst they were playing. The ‘cast’ included The Stones (who were top of the bill), Eric Clapton (who’d recently split from super group Cream), Jethro Tull and The Who. John performed two songs: ‘Yer Blues’, and ‘Her Blues’ – which featured Yoko and ‘perpetual violinist’ Ivry Gitlis. He said: “It was great to be on stage with Eric and Keith Richards with a different noise coming out behind me, even though I was still singing and playing the same style.
