George stormed out. It is not known what tipped the whole thing off, but rumours started circulating about him thumping John at lunch. Whilst this story is probably false, it does at least demonstrate that George had a problem with John as much as he did Paul. It was probably a combination of many things: He had become increasingly pissed off with John’s stony silence at the sessions and Yoko’s constant meddling had started to get on his nerves. Everyone knew that he was very much the number three in the band, but with Yoko’s new role as John’s mouthpiece, he suddenly found that he had been demoted to number four! And if you couple that with Paul’s patronising titter-tatter, then it’s no wonder he got hacked off. As soon as he came back from lunch he announced that he was quitting …
