Paul flew back to London, working out the concept for ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ on the way. Paul was always on the lookout for new things to do “to keep us together, keep us going, give us something new to do.” So whilst he was in America he went to see Ken Kesey’s Merry Pranksters (author of ‘One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest’), who travelled around the States in a drug-fuelled bus inflicting bizarre ‘happenings’ on the population. This gave him the idea for a mini-movie… “It was conceived on the plane,” he said. “You know they give you those big menus and I had a pen and everything and started drawing on this menu and I had this idea.
