Ringo was finally discharged from hospital whilst the rest of the band flew to Sydney, Australia. It was pissing down with rain and they were driven around the airport in an open-topped lorry so they could wave at the kids. One nutcase rushed out of the crowd and hurled her six-year-old handicapped kid into the back of the truck, shouting out “Catch him Paul!” So Paul caught him and chucked him straight back saying “He’s lovely! Great! You take him now.” And she ran off weeping “He’s better! Oh, he’s better!”

George remembered: “After the drive round and round in the truck in the rain each of us was put in a Mini with our name on it. John, Paul, George, Jimmy individually, in huge Dayglo paint. They were advertising the British Motor Corporation; the cars were Minis, together …
