Paul went to see Lonnie Donegan performing at The Empire. “He was great. He was the man at the time. He was highly instrumental in making us buy our first guitars.” he said. “After we saw him and his skiffle group, we just wanted guitars.”

George’s mum stumped up thirty quid for a second-hand model. “She bought me this very cheap guitar worth £3 10s. I heard there was a guy who went to the junior school I went to selling his guitar… Just a cheap little acoustic guitar, but I didn’t really know what to do with it. I noticed where the neck fitted on the box it had a big bolt through it, holding it on. I thought, ‘Oh, that’s interesting.’ So I unscrewed it, and the neck fell off! I was so embarrassed, I couldn’t get it back together, so I hid it in the cupboard for a while.”
