Brian met the American TV-host Ed Sullivan at his suite at the Delmonico Hotel. He followed it up with another meeting on the 12th to discuss dates and money. At this initial meeting, Sullivan agreed to have the Beatles on his Sunday night show on 9th February ’64, and again one week later in Miami. They also agreed that another performance should be taped for viewing after the Beatles left for England. Brian insisted that the Beatles be given top-billing – a big risk for Sullivan, seeing as the band were still relatively unknown in the States. In return, Brian agreed a piddly deal of $3,500 per show, when a normal act could expect to get ten.
