Williams told the Beetles that he might be able to get them a gig in Hamburg, but they had to find another drummer first. So they wandered over to The Casbah to watch the Blackjacks with old band-mate Ken Brown and Pete Best on drums, and he was pretty good, so the Beetles promptly nicked him (and his drums) and left poor old Ken Brown in the lurch again! And four days later they boarded the boat to Hamburg.

Paul remembered: “I got into trouble for not taking my exams at school and, naturally, I was invited to pay my headmaster an awkward visit. But I vanished and wrote him a letter from Hamburg saying ‘I have resigned from school.’ I wrote, ‘Dear Sir, I’ve got a great job in Germany, and I’m earning £15 a week!’” is not affiliated with or approved by The Beatles, Apple, MPL, EMI or Capitol Records.
