1967 saw a big police crackdown on drug abuse, and the first big names to get a rude awakening were Jagger and Richards. Pissed off at their cheeky manipulation of the press one week before, the police thought the time was ripe to make a statement to the kids on the street. They waited till they had a party round Richards’ house, and then stormed in with bods, cops and sniffer dogs. According to Barry Miles in ‘Many Years From Now’, “Robert [Fraser] was chased through the garden and rugby-tackled by two policewomen, and found to be in possession of twenty-four jacks of heroin and arrested. The police threw away all of the cocaine, not knowing what it was, but took for analysis the bottles of Ambre Solaire suntan lotion and, inexplicably, all the bars of complementary soap that …
