A particularly nasty ‘book-burning’ took place in South Carolina. It had been arranged by the local radio station, KLUE, and was soured when the ‘Grand Dragon’ of the Ku Klux Klan nailed a Beatles LP to his cross and started parading around a pyre. (Justice was done a day later… when God knocked out the station’s transmission tower with lightning!) John said: “When they started burning our records… that was a real shock, the physical burning. I couldn’t go away knowing I’d created another little piece of hate in the world, so I apologised.” But George took a more pragmatic view, saying: “They’ve got to buy them before they can burn them.” is not affiliated with or approved by The Beatles, Apple, MPL, EMI or Capitol Records.
