The Beatles flew to Paris to do eighteen concerts. The shows were shared with French chanteuse Sylvie Vartin and Trini Lopez. There was also a very-French assortment of juggling mimes and acrobats. The French press were predictably aloof, and dismissed them as “juvenile delinquent has-beens.” The ‘Daily Mail’ reported: “If Paris and The Beatles are going to have an affair; then it’s getting off to a very slow start… Beatlemania is, like Britain’s entry into the Common Market, a problem that the French prefer to put off for a while.” John remembered that this was where they first heard Bob Dylan’s ‘Freewheelin’ album, and for the next three weeks “we didn’t stop playing it. We all went potty on Dylan.”
