Recording session at Akustik Studio during which they recorded Fever, Summertime and September Song.

They also performed at the Kaiserkeller in Hamburg, West Germany, as part of their Kaiserkeller residency.

The Beatles got together with Rory Storm’s drummer and bass-player Lu Walters and cut a record at Akustik Studios (57 Kirchenalle), round the back of Hamburg’s main railway station. Also present were Allan Williams, Johnny Byrne and Ty Brian, although they played no part in the recording. One very strange absentee was Pete Best, who may have deferred to his Rory Storm counterpart (Ringo); so this may well be the very first time that all four Beatles played on tape!

The songs they played that day have been open to debate for years and years, and the truth is that nobody really knows, because the disc no longer exists. It is generally accepted by all that ‘Fever’ and George Gershwin’s ‘Summertime’ found their way onto tape, but some say ‘September Song’ did as well. Allan Williams …
