Brian Epstein sacked Pete Best by inviting him into the office and blurting it out: “The boys want you out of the group. They don’t think you’re a good enough drummer.”

“Prior to Brian,” recalled Pete, “I had handled all the business for the group, so for me to be called into his office wasn’t out of the ordinary. I hadn’t a care in the world as I went in, but this particular day, he was very apprehensive. He talked around the subject for a while, but then he had to come out with it. He said, ‘Pete, I’ve got some bad news. The boys wants you out and Ringo in.’ That was my first warning of the dismissal. It just didn’t seem real.
