The music paper ‘Disc And Music Echo’ quoted John as saying: “Apple is losing money every week. If it carries on like this, then we’ll all be broke in six months.” This was exactly the kind of good news that Allen Klein had been waiting for, and he immediately got in touch with Apple HQ. “I read a statement attributed to John Lennon,” he said. “And I immediately telephoned Mr Lennon’s office and arranged to meet him in London.”

This is generally assumed to be the start of the whole ‘Allen Klein’ saga, but he’d actually been chasing them for months. Peter Brown remembered meeting him in ’68. “But he was so foul-mouthed and abusive, I ended the meeting in a few moments and showed him the door.” That meeting revolved around the Beatles plan to merge with the Rolling Stones – and set …
