The fire-cracker concert in Memphis, Tennessee. They’d been getting death threats all week, and the authorities had to delay the start to search for a non-existent bomb. When they finally took to the stage they were pelted with a pile of rotten fruit from a gaggle of Beatle-haters underneath the stage. When somebody threw a firecracker a little bit later, they all looked round to see who’d been shot. Tony Barrow remembered: “I was standing in the wings when the firecracker exploded in the audience. Each Beatle just glanced at the others to see if one of them would drop. It says something for them that they didn’t miss a note.” Paul recalled: “They were zealots. It was horrible to see the hatred on their faces.” is not affiliated with or approved by The Beatles, Apple, MPL, EMI or Capitol Records.
