A further session for ‘The Variety Club Of Great Britain Awards For 1963’ took place later in the day at the Dorchester Hotel. This show was broadcast on 20th March (BBC) and featured interviews with John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

A further session for ‘Top Of The Pops’ took place later in the day at the Television Theatre. This show was broadcast on 25th March (BBC). They played Can’t Buy Me Love and You Can’t Do That.

Ringo unwittingly came up with the title for their first film after he said “it’s been a hard day’s night” in conversation. But he may have remembered it from a phrase in John’s book, because he mentions it in the ‘Sad Michael’ story at the end: “He’d had a hard day’s night that day, for Michael was a Cocky Watchtower.”

They also attended the 12th Annual Variety Club of Great Britain Awards at the Dorchester. There they were awarded the ‘Show Business Personalities of 1963’ gong, by the then leader of the opposition, Harold Wilson.
