Allen Klein managed to negotiate an increased royalty rate from EMI and Capitol. He simply told them that they would sit on their arses for the next six years unless they got a pay rise. (And this was no idle threat, because they had already released the minimum number of albums stipulated in their contract.) The deal he hammered out of them was 58 cents for every album sold in the States until 1972, after which they’d get 72 cents. This was an incredible amount of money (their current deal was running at 39 cents per album, and before that it was just 6 cents!). And all they had to do in return was promise to release two albums a year, either as a group or solo. It was such a good deal that even Paul agreed to sign it.
