The Beatles invited The Byrds, Peter Fonda and some mates around their rented house down Mulholland Drive, and they all sat around tripping on LSD. This was John and George’s second trip, and Ringo’s first, but Paul didn’t take it for another couple of months. John appeared to have a downer, and the atmosphere turned a bit nasty and he had Peter Fonda kicked out. John later wrote the song ‘She Said She Said’ about it. He also wrote a depressing letter home to his wife, declaring: “I spend hours in dressing rooms thinking about the time I’ve wasted not being with Julian – and playing with him – you know I keep thinking of those stupid bastard times when I keep reading bloody newspapers and other shit whilst he’s in the room with us and I’ve decided it’s ALL WRONG!… I’ll go now …
