Recording session at EMI Studios No. 2 (19:00–02:30) during which they recorded Strawberry Fields Forever.

First session for ‘Sgt. Pepper’s’. The sessions ran on for the next four months, and ended up costing EMI over twenty-five grand (which was an incredible sum to spend on one album). Paul later described the thinking behind it: “We were getting a little bit fed up of being The Beatles… It was all getting so bloody predictable… And I had come to the conclusion that we were getting a little bit safe, and that we were a little bit intimidated by the idea of making ‘the new Beatles album’. So it was quite a big thing. So, to relieve the pressure, I got the idea, maybe from some friends or something I’d read, that we shouldn’t record it as ‘The Beatles’.
