The famous Butcher cover photo shoot down the old King’s Road. Photographer Bob Whitaker scattered some broken doll’s heads, arms and legs around the floor and fired off a few reels of film. John said: “It was inspired by our boredom and resentment at having to do another photo session and another Beatles thing. We were sick to death of it.” But if anyone thinks that the ‘old’ cover was controversial, then they should have a read of Bob’s original description: “I’d brought false teeth, doll’s eyes, a set of white coats, hammers and nails, a birdcage and a box that I stuck Ringo’s head in. I was going to make him into alabaster, and on the box I wrote, ‘2,000,000’, so that he would be one in a series of two million people. I also brought along a couple of strings of sausages and …
