Brian started up NEMS Enterprises (…not to be confused with his NEMS music shops) to accommodate his fledging showbiz empire. “As 1962 progressed,” he said, “and Gerry and the Pacemakers joined me, I decided to form a limited company to cope with tax matters, to ease banking arrangements and generally put my growing band of artists on a proper footing [he also signed up Billy J. Kramer and The Big Three]. My brother Clive joined me as a director, but I was, however, the entire working staff, for Clive was very busy with the family business.” The company shares were originally split evenly between the two, but they were split again in April ’64.
