The Beatles met Elvis Presley and had a jam with him (and some cheeseburgers). John remembered: “There was only one person in the United States that we really wanted to meet, and that was Elvis. We just idolised the guy so much. When I first heard ‘Heartbreak Hotel’, I could hardly speak. It was just the experience of hearing it and having my hair stand on end.” It took Brian more than three days to plan it. “We hoped it would be a secret,” he said. “But the fans and the press still got wind of it.” George recalled: “It was funny, because by the time we got near his house we’d forgotten where we were going.
