The Beatles were commissioned to write a piece of music for a mixed-media event at the Roundhouse Theatre, North London. It was for a big hippy-gathering, and all the walls were draped in silks and statues and artwork littered the place, and everyone was walking around talking love and kisses etc. One of the acts on display was the newly-formed Jimi Hendrix Experience. (Apparently someone nicked his guitar at the end, and they had to chase him all the way up Haverstock Hill!) The piece that Paul supplied was ‘Carnival Of Light’ – a thirteen minute sound-collage, not too dissimilar to ‘Revolution 9’. They played it over and over again as an (uncredited) soundscape. Apparently Paul hankered to have it released on ‘Anthology 2’, but George vetoed it. is not affiliated with or approved by The Beatles, Apple, MPL, EMI or Capitol Records.
