Performance at the Casbah Coffee Club in West Derby, Liverpool.

The Les Stewart Quartet (with George on guitar) was supposed to be playing at The Casbah Coffee Club’s opening night, but they had a big dust-up and Les Stewart stormed off, leaving band-leader Ken Brown in the lurch. “I went round Les’s house,” said Ken, “and George was sitting in the lounge with his Hofner guitar lying across his lap, idly picking at the strings. The atmosphere seemed a little bit tense so I said, ‘What’s up?’ And I looked at Les and he said, ‘You’ve been missing practice.’ ‘I know,’ I replied. ‘I’ve been helping to fix up The Casbah.’ ‘Well,’ Les continued, ‘I’m not going to play there.’” And he stormed off!
