Performance at the Candlestick Park in Jamestown, San Francisco, USA (20:00), attended by 25,000 people, as part of their Third American Tour.

Their last-ever live concert, at Candlestick Park. When they turned up they found that the front-gate was shut: “All of us on the bus were laughing like crazy. The driver headed to the outermost perimeter of the parking lot and began driving faster and faster around the park to escape the fans. Suddenly, in an attempt to get away from a growing convoy of fans following the bus, he exited the parking lot and drove around the neighbourhood near the park. We were cruising around residential streets, nearly getting lost. Finally we re-entered the park and drove through the newly-unlocked gates to the dressing-rooms area.”

Although they probably didn’t care, by the time they took to the stage, the crowd were already drowning in thousands of “The Monkees are here!” promotional fliers …
