Recording session at EMI Studios No. 2 (23:00–07:30) during which they recorded With A Little Help From My Friends.

The famous Sgt. Pepper’s photo shoot in Peter Blake’s studio down the old King’s Road. “Paul explained that the concept was like a band you might see in a park,” he said. “So the cover shot could be a photograph of them as though they were a town band finishing a concert in a park, playing on a bandstand with a municipal flowerbed next to it, with a crowd of people around them.” So he hit upon the novel idea of filling it up with famous faces. Each Beatle then proceeded to draw up a list of people that they’d like to see in the crowd, and John said Adolf Hitler and Jesus Christ! EMI – wary of the furore that had resulted from his ‘Jesus comment’ in ’66, quickly vetoed that silly idea. They also insisted that Gandhi be blacked-out, just in case he dented sales in the sub-continent. …
