Recording session for the radio show ‘Saturday Club’ This show was transmitted on 8th February (BBC Light Programme) and featured interviews with John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

Exactly one year after their first US single flopped out of sight, the Beatles made their triumphant visit to America. The war was virtually done and dusted before they even landed. Eager kids were glued to the wireless as up-to-date reports came flooding in: “It’s B-Day!” roared the DJs. “It is now 6.30am, Beatle time… They left London 30 minutes ago… they’re out over the Atlantic Ocean heading for New York… The temperature is 32 Beatle degrees.” George remembered: “Phil Spector [the famous American record producer] was so paranoid about flying that he cancelled his flight and booked with us, because he thought that we were winners and wouldn’t crash.” When they finally arrived at JFK they were met with a glorious sight – five thousand screaming women and a couple of hundred …
