In what was rapidly turning into a full-on Holy War, the South African government – now in full anti-Beatles mode – decided to ban the ‘playing’ of Beatles music as well. (This ban was still in force five years later. They lifted the embargo for Paul, George and Ringo’s solo albums, but they refused to import John’s until long after his death.)
