John met Yoko at her ‘Unfinished Paintings and Objects’ show at the Indica Gallery. All of the exhibits were either pure-white or see-through (apart from one little piece called ‘Add Colour Painting’, which invited the viewer to add a splash of paint themselves). There was a ‘Painting to Shake Hands’ (“A painting for cowards: drill a hole in the canvas and put your hand out from behind. Receive your guests in that position. Shake hands and converse with hands.”) There was also a box of smiles, an all-white chess set (which Roman Polanski grew very fond of), and a Sky-TV (“I would like to see the sky machine on every corner of the street instead of a Coke machine,” she said. “We need more skies than Coke”).
