Tuesday, 1st April

John and Yoko explaining BagismExplaining Bagism on ‘Today’ – 1 Apr ’ 69

Recording session for the radio show ‘Late Night Extra’ This show was transmitted live (BBC Radio 1 & 2) and featured an interview with John Lennon.

A further session for ‘Today’ took place later in the day at the Television House. The programme was broadcast live (Thames) and featured interviews with John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

John and Yoko appeared on the ‘Today’ show with Eamonn Andrews.

Thursday, 3rd April

Recording session for the radio show ‘The World At One’ at the Broadcasting House This show was transmitted live (BBC Radio 4) and featured an interview with George Harrison.

A further session for ‘The Eamonn Andrews Show’ took place later in the day at the Café Royal. The programme was broadcast live (Thames) and featured an interview with John Lennon.

Saturday, 5th April

ATV offered John and Paul nine million quid for their remaining shares in Northern Songs. They turned it down.

Friday, 11th April

‘Get Back’ single – front cover ReleasedUK single. Get Back Peak position: BBC – #1; Melody Maker – #1; NME – #1; Record Retailer – #1

Saturday, 12th April

The Beatles set about working out how to regain control of Northern Songs, and had a couple of business meetings with Ansbachers in the City.

Monday, 14th April

Recording session at EMI Studios No. 3 (14:30–21:00) during which they recorded The Ballad Of John And Yoko.

Wednesday, 16th April

Recording session at EMI Studios No. 3 (14:30–02:45) during which they recorded Old Brown Shoe and Something.

Friday, 18th April

Recording session at EMI Studios No. 3 (14:30–22:30) during which they recorded Old Brown Shoe.

Saturday, 19th April

Recording session at EMI Studios No. 3 (01:00–04:30) during which they recorded I Want You (She’s So Heavy).

Sunday, 20th April

Recording session at EMI Studios No. 3 (19:00–0:00) during which they recorded I Want You (She’s So Heavy) and Oh! Darling.

Monday, 21st April

John and Yoko formed a new film production company – Bag productions.

Tuesday, 22nd April

John gave himself a new middle name – ‘Ono’ – and had a little celebration on the roof of the Apple building. Afterwards he went and recorded his heartbeat for use on ‘The Wedding Album’. “Yoko changed hers for me,” he said, “and I’ve changed mine for her. One for both, and both for each other. She has a ring. I have a ring. It gives us nine ‘O’s between us, which is good luck. Ten would not be good luck. Three names is enough for anyone. Four would be greedy.”

Saturday, 26th April

Recording session at EMI Studios No. 2 (16:30–04:15) during which they recorded Oh! Darling and Octopus’s Garden.

Tuesday, 29th April

Recording session at EMI Studios No. 3 (21:30–01:00) during which they recorded Octopus’s Garden.

Wednesday, 30th April

Recording session at EMI Studios No. 3 (19:15–02:00) during which they recorded Get Back and You Know My Name (Look Up The Number).
