Wednesday, 2nd December

Ringo had his tonsils out, and his singing was never the same again. A BBC newsreader mistakenly announced that he’d “had his toenails taken out.” Thousands of fans wrote in asking if they could keep them, but Ringo announced that no one was getting them – because he was going to burn them. Spoilsport.

Friday, 4th December

Monday, 7th December

The Beatles music publisher, Dick James (who used to be a singer himself), decided to step onto the Beatles bandwagon and released a medley of hits comprising: ‘From Me To You’; ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’; ‘She Loves You’; ‘All My Loving’; ‘I Should Have Known Better’, and ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’. Paul said it was, “Very good indeed – a lot of fun.” But he had to say that.

Ringo was released from hospital.

Recording session for the TV show ‘Top Of The Pops ’64’ at the Odeon Cinema. This show was broadcast on 24th December (BBC1) and featured interviews with John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

Thursday, 24th December

Performance at the Odeon Cinema in Hammersmith, as part of their Another Beatles Christmas Show. They played Twist And Shout, I’m A Loser, Baby’s In Black, Everybody’s Trying To Be My Baby, Can’t Buy Me Love, Honey Don’t, I Feel Fine, She’s A Woman, A Hard Day’s Night, Rock And Roll Music and Long Tall Sally.

First night of ‘The Beatles Christmas Show’ at the Hammersmith Odeon. This is where George met the nineteen-year-old Eric Clapton for the first time, because The Yardbirds were on the bill.
