Sometime in the summer (date unknown), Cynthia’s mother dropped some bombshell news – her cousin was emigrating to Canada and she was going as well. So Cynthia moved in with John’s Aunt Mimi. But they didn’t get on very well so she quickly moved out again. (But she moved back in when she gave birth to John’s kid.)

Saturday, 1st July

Performance at the Top Ten Club in Hamburg, West Germany, as part of their Top Ten residency.

Monday, 3rd July

The Beatles returned to England.

Thursday, 6th July

The first-ever issue of Mersey Beat came out. It was run by John’s old flatmate, Bill Harry, in an office above the wine-merchants at 81 Renshaw Street. He used to run out of college in his lunch-break and sprint up the hill and type it with his other-half, Virginia.

Ringo’s 21st birthday.

Performance at the Cavern Club in Liverpool.

Saturday, 15th July

Performance at the Holyoake Hall in Wavertree, Liverpool.

They played another show at the Town Hall Ballroom in Litherland, Liverpool later in the day.

The second issue of ‘Mersey Beat’ came out containing a report on the Beatles’ Tony Sheridan session. Bill Harry even offered John his own column, called ‘Beatcomber’.

They played another show at the Cavern Club in Liverpool later in the day.
