The Beatles played a gig at the Empire Theatre, Liverpool, and Bill Harry went backstage and suggested John drop in on Millie Sutcliffe (Stuart Sutcliffe’s mum). He went along with Pete Shotton and she gave him a clipping of their first-ever write-up. She also gave him a book called ‘How To Draw Horses’, which he’d lent Stuart years before, and a pick of Stuart’s paintings. He chose an abstract oil painting and hung it in his living room.
