Ken came down with a cold and didn’t feel like playing much, but when Mona Best (Pete Best’s mum) came to hand out the money, he still had the nerve to ask for his 75p appearance fee! So they had a furious row and kicked him out.

Sunday, 18th October

Performance at the Empire Theatre in Liverpool.

The biggest competition they ever entered was Carroll Levis’ ‘Mr Star-Maker Talent Show’ up in Manchester. So big was the build-up that they even dusted up a brand new bandname for the occasion: Johnny and the Moondogs.
