October 1963

Sometime in October (date unknown) Cynthia’s mother came back from Canada and found a house in Hoylake. And seeing as John was always gigging up and down the country, Cynthia decided to move in with the kid.

Thursday, 3rd October

Recording session at EMI Studios No. 3 (10:00–13:00) during which they recorded I Wanna Be Your Man and Little Child.

There was also a recording session for the radio show ‘The Public Ear’ at the NEMS Enterprises This show was transmitted on 3rd November (BBC Light Programme) and featured interviews with John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

Recording session for the TV show ‘Ready, Steady, Go!’ at the Television House. The programme was broadcast live (Assoc-Rediff) and featured music and interviews with John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They played Twist And Shout, I’ll Get You and She Loves You.

Performance at the Concert Hall in Glasgow, Scotland, as part of their Mini Tour of Scotland.

Sunday, 6th October

Performance at the Carlton Theatre in Sinclairtown, Kirkcaldy, Scotland, attended by 3,000 people, as part of their Mini Tour of Scotland.

Monday, 7th October

Performance at the Caird Hall in Dundee, Scotland, as part of their Mini Tour of Scotland.

Wednesday, 9th October

Recording session for the radio show ‘The Ken Dodd Show’ at the BBC Paris Studio This show was transmitted on 3rd November (BBC Light Programme).

Friday, 11th October

Performance at the Trentham Gardens in Trentham.

Sunday, 13th October

Recording session for the TV show ‘Val Parnell’s Sunday Night At The London Palladium’ at the London Palladium. The programme was broadcast live (ATV). They played From Me To You, I’ll Get You, She Loves You and Twist And Shout.

The Beatles appeared on Sunday Night At The London Palladium, performing ‘From Me To You’, ‘I’ll Get You’, ‘Twist And Shout’ and ‘She Loves You’.

Tuesday, 15th October

Performance at the Floral Hall in Southport.

Wednesday, 16th October

Recording session for the radio show ‘Easy Beat’ at the Playhouse Theatre This show was transmitted on 20th October (BBC Light Programme). They played I Saw Her Standing There, Love Me Do, Please Please Me, From Me To You and She Loves You.

Thursday, 17th October

Recording session at EMI Studios No. 2 (14:30–17:30) during which they recorded I Want To Hold Your Hand and This Boy.

A further session took place between 19:00–22:00 in Studio 2 at which they recorded You Really Got A Hold On Me.

Friday, 18th October

Recording session for the TV show ‘Scene At 6.30’ at the Granada TV Centre. The programme was broadcast live (Granada). They played She Loves You.

Saturday, 19th October

Performance at the Pavilion Gardens Ballroom in Buxton.

Sunday, 20th October

Recording session for the TV show ‘Thank Your Lucky Stars’ at the Alpha Television Studios. This show was broadcast on 26th October (ABC). They played All My Loving, Money (That’s What I Want) and She Loves You.

Wednesday, 23rd October

Recording session at EMI Studios No. 2 (10:00–13:00) during which they recorded I Wanna Be Your Man, Little Child and Hold Me Tight.

The Beatles flew to Sweden for the start of a short Scandinavian tour.

Thursday, 24th October

Performance at the Karlaplansstudion in Stockholm, Sweden, as part of their Swedish Tour. They played I Saw Her Standing There, From Me To You, Money (That’s What I Want), Roll Over Beethoven, You Really Got A Hold On Me, She Loves You and Twist And Shout.

Friday, 25th October

Performance at the Sundsta Läroverk in Karlstad, Sweden, as part of their Swedish Tour. They played Long Tall Sally, Please Please Me, I Saw Her Standing There, From Me To You, A Taste Of Honey, Chains, Boys, She Loves You and Twist And Shout.

Saturday, 26th October

Performance at the Kungliga Tennishallen in Stockholm, Sweden, as part of their Swedish Tour. They played Long Tall Sally, Please Please Me, I Saw Her Standing There, From Me To You, A Taste Of Honey, Chains, Boys, She Loves You and Twist And Shout.

Sunday, 27th October

Performance at the Cirkus in Göteborg, Sweden, as part of their Swedish Tour. They played Long Tall Sally, Please Please Me, I Saw Her Standing There, From Me To You, A Taste Of Honey, Chains, Boys, She Loves You and Twist And Shout.

Monday, 28th October

Performance at the Boråshallen in Borås, Sweden (19:30), as part of their Swedish Tour. They played Long Tall Sally, Please Please Me, I Saw Her Standing There, From Me To You, A Taste Of Honey, Chains, Boys, She Loves You and Twist And Shout.

Tuesday, 29th October

Performance at the Sporthallen in Eskilstuna, Sweden, as part of their Swedish Tour. They played Long Tall Sally, Please Please Me, I Saw Her Standing There, From Me To You, A Taste Of Honey, Chains, Boys, She Loves You and Twist And Shout.

Brian signed a deal with United Artists for the Beatles first feature film. John said: “After this film, they’ll find out that we’re not actors and that will be that.”

The Beatles flew back from their week-long tour of Scandinavia and were met by thousands of screaming girls at Heathrow Airport. By a lucky coincidence, American TV-host Ed Sullivan was also walking through the airport at the same time, and was so impressed with the adulation that he contacted Brian about getting them on his show.
