The ‘Let It Be… Naked’ LP came out for one reason, and for one reason only – Paul hated the original. And he wasn’t the only one either. “I thought the orchestral work on it was totally uncharacteristic,” said George Martin. “We had established a particular style of music over the years and I felt that what Phil Spector had done was not only uncharacteristic, but wrong. I was totally disappointed with what happened to ‘Let It Be’.”

Twenty years later Paul got the opportunity to rectify the situation, although the inclusion of the unadorned ‘The Long And Winding Road’ on ‘Anthology 3’ would probably have sufficed.

Lots of people thought that the ‘Fly On The Wall’ disc was an opportunity lost. Reels and reels of Twickenham tapes remain unreleased and they could have easily have filled up a couple of CDs with the best bits.
