Although United Artists had managed to snap up the soundtrack to ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ from under Capitol’s noses, they had no such luck with ‘Help!’. They ended up with the non-Beatles orchestrals instead. Capitol’s version climbed to No.1 in a couple of weeks and knocked The Rolling Stones off the top. It got ousted two months later by ‘The Sound Of Music’ soundtrack.

Everyone assumes that the semaphore signals spell out H-E-L-P, but they don’t. They actually spell out N-V-U-J. The photographer tried to get it right first time but didn’t like how it looked. So he ended up choosing his own arm signals. But for some unknown reason they chose a different order on the UK LP – N-U-J-V.

In the late 1970s Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MFSL) made a name for themselves by cutting classic albums at half-speed. This new mastering technology produced high quality lacquers that captured every little nuance of sound and improved stereo separation.

The first three Beatles’ album to receive the MFSL treatment were ‘Abbey Road’, ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ and ‘The White Album’. The remaining nine albums were all released simultaneously in the ‘The Beatles/The Collection’ box-set.
