In the late 1970s Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MFSL) made a name for themselves by cutting classic albums at half-speed. This new mastering technology produced high quality lacquers that captured every little nuance of sound and improved stereo separation.

The first Beatles’ album to receive the MFSL treatment was ‘Abbey Road’ in 1979, quickly followed by ‘Magical Mystery Tour’.

By early 1982 MFSL had remastered three Beatles albums – ‘Abbey Road’, ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ and ‘The White Album’. These proved to be such a success that they decided to give the remaining nine albums the same treatment too, and released them in a box-set – ‘The Beatles/The Collection’.

The already released ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ was then reissued with a brand-new cover to match the rest in the set.
