Because Vee-Jay only had the rights to The Beatles’ first sixteen songs for a limited time, they went about re-releasing them in as many different formats as possible before Capitol grabbed them back. This led to them pulling all the songs off the album and sending them out as singles and EPs.

With the band’s triumphant appearance on the ‘Ed Sullivan Show’ and Washington Coliseum gig still fresh in everyone’s minds, Vee-Jay decided to release four of the songs as a “Souvenir of Their Visit to America”.

They also released another single on the same day, using the exact same pictures on the cover.

After a few months it became clear that EP sales were never going to reach the giddy heights of their singles, so they dropped the price by a third and re-marketed it …
