Whilst it was marketed as a double A-side, Paul’s ‘We Can Work It Out’ just edged out John’s ‘Day Tripper’ from the top of the tree, spending a combined total of three weeks at No.1.

It swapped places with Simon and Garfunkel’s ‘Sound Of Silence’ for a while, before finally succumbing to Petula Clark’s ‘My Love’ and The Beach Boys’ ‘Barbara Ann’.
