The ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ project caused a bit of a conundrum for The Beatles because they ended up with too many songs for an EP, but not enough for an album. Their solution was to give us the world’s first double EP.

It came complete with a 32-page colour book packed with pictures from the movie, a strip cartoon of the original script, and the words to the songs that featured in the film.

Despite being one of their best-selling issues, the EP chart was no longer running by 1967 so it only made No.2 in the singles chart, due to its higher price. It was kept off the top-spot by the Beatles’ own ‘Hello, Goodbye’.
