When The Beatles let slip that every member of their fan-club would be receiving a bonus disc for Christmas, they were instantly inundated with a bazillion million applications and were still sending them out in February! They ended up with over thirty thousand members.

The disc consists of five minutes of Fab Four tomfoolery partly scripted by their press officer, Tony Barrow.

It starts off with quick rendition of ‘Good King Wenceslas’ before John thanks everybody for liking The Beatles. “Hello, this is John speaking,” he says. “We’re all very happy to be able to talk to you like this on this little bit of plastic. This record reaches you at the end of a really gear year for us and it’s all due to you.”

The American fan-club started a year behind its British counterpart so this disc was delayed until 1964 – meaning that the message was over a year old.

At one point John can be heard running through the year’s highlights and mentions performing at the ‘The Royal Variety Show’ in November ’63.
