Christmas spirit was rather lacking this year because The Beatles recorded all their parts separately and turned it over to the popular disc-jockey Kenny Everett to edit together.

The most famous segment of the disc is John’s story which many people construed to be a dig at the other Beatles:

Unfortunatimeable they seemed to have previous experience which kept calling them one way or another. You know how it is. Because of the extended length of this record they had to spread it over both sides of the disc, which meant that the American fans actually got hold of a proper record this time instead of a flexi. (Although they were given a year-old cover to compensate!)
