An excellent collection, but way overpriced. One can download the same songs from gomusic for less than $10, and buying this box set would cost over $250! But this is the way the songs were meant to be heard. Some highlights: -"I Call Your Name" has a different guitar intro. -"help! " has a different vocal. -"Paperback Writer", "And Your Bird Can Sing", "she said", as well as other songs from the same era, are much punchier and have louder guitars. -"Getting Better" and "With A Little Help From My Friends" are, likewise, have much more power. -"Revolution"–no competition. The song is a lot more powerful.the mono box, then, will cost a pretty penny, but some of the music here is invaluable to any comprehensive beatls CD collection.

Mono is the only way to listen to the Beatles, from Please Please Me - Sgt. Pepper. Magical Mystery Tour and the White Album sound better in stereo.

All of the albums sound fantastic, especially Rubber Soul and Sgt.Pepper. I much prefer the tighter soundscape, the fact that the vocals are centralised and not pushed to one channel like on some of the Stereo mixes. Also the Mono mixes sound punchier and more vibrant.
And of course these we’re the mixes that the band themselves attended and the albums they wanted people to hear. There are notable differences in the songs, some big some small, and it is interesting to note these. I would recommend it to any Beatles fan, definitely worth the money.

This set is the only one "i can’t live without". I will echo what has already been said countless times; mono is the way to listen to the Beatles. The inclusion of "Mono Masters" which other than the presence of the 2 German readings (which are "cute", but I pretty much skip them now), is a PERFECT collection of Beatles music. You get a lot of the singles, the splendid "Yellow Submarine" LP originals in true mono mixes, unlike the original vinyl which was just a stereo fold-down. Unlike the Stereo boxset, there isnt the usual over-compression/limiting which seems to be the practice anymore. So there is actually some dynamic range here. The "White Album" is an excellent place to note those dynamics, and of course, Sgt. Pepper, whose stereo mix (when using headphones) is all but unlistenable. The mono version is so focused and clear. Also a tremendous treat is Magical Mystery Tour, which had a limited run in mono as stereo was becoming the norm in the U.S., where the White Album was NEVER released in mono. So if you haven’t ever heard the Fabs in mono, You NEED this. The CD set has fallen to more realistic pricing; the vinyl is pretty costly. I bought a copy of the White Album mono on vinyl. Mastered from analog original tapes instead of a digital transfer (which, arguably, makes no sense to use for vinyl) the sound is stellar. Maybe some day Ill be able to afford the vinyl set. In the meantime, the CDs are a Beatles music lovers dream come true. Definitely 5 stars.
