Ive never really been a fan of Day Tripper. It’s got a good riff, but give me a good tune like We Can Work It Out any day. I think it was the competition between Paul and John that made them release this as a double A-side, because George Martin and Brian Epstein didn’t want to annoy John. If he’s honest though, he could probably see that We Can Work It Out was the better A-side.
Think about Hey Jude and Revolution. Revolution is a much better record than Day Tripper, but it still only made the B-side. And think about Get Back and Don’t Let Me Down too – Don’t Let Me Down is fantastic, but still only got a B-side. Is Day Tripper any better than those two? Not for me.
Im still giving it 5-stars though just for We Can Work It Out. Day Tripper just gets a 4.

I was going to choose Lady Madonna - but - both sides of this record have stood up over time. Stevie Wonder covered the B-side (We Can Work It Out - did quite well with it) and Day Tripper is such a sarcastic look at some of the experiences the Beatles and some people have had in life. It is a crossover from the earlier driving rock they copied from the likes of Chuck Berry and Wilbur Harrison (Kansas City) to their own style and their own pens. It rocked and bit and still drives to this day. This was a hard selection to make - but both sides gave you your moneys worth….
