This was rush-released to take advantage of the ‘Our World’ broadcast on the 25th June, knocking Procol Harum’s classic track ‘A Whiter Shade Of Pale’ from the top of the charts.

The single version runs slightly longer than the one on ‘Magical Mystery Tour’, because it contains an extra burst of ‘Greensleeves’ at the end (3:57 instead of 3:48).

UK vinyl single (Re-release) All You Need Is Love b/w Baby You’re A Rich Man

  • Label: Parlophone R 5620 MONO
  • Released: 8th March 1976

On the 6th February 1976 The Beatles contract with EMI expired, freeing up the company to do whatever they liked with their back catalogue. And they didn’t waste any time… their first move was to re-release EVERY single that they’d ever made.

Technically speaking they weren’t re-releases at all, because they had never been deleted and still had the same catalogue numbers as the originals. They were more like re-issues.

The entire set of 22 singles was augmented by one brand-new one (‘Yesterday’) and released on the same day, so at one point all 23 of them were in the top 100 at the same time – including six in the top fifty!

As well as the 20th anniversary re-release, EMI also put out a special 12-inch version.

There had only been one other 12-inch single prior to this date – ‘Love Me Do’ in 1982. But unlike that one, this version was just a straight copy of the re-release and contained no bonus song.
