This was the first single to be released on their new Apple label.

John was desperate for his political song ‘Revolution 1’ to make the A-side (the one on ‘The White Album’), but Paul and George thought it was too slow. On the 6th February 1976 The Beatles contract with EMI expired, freeing up the company to do whatever they liked with their back catalogue. And they didn’t waste any time… their first move was to re-release EVERY single that they’d ever made.

The entire set of 22 singles was augmented by one brand-new one (‘Yesterday’) and released on the same day, so at one point all 23 of them were in the top 100 at the same time – including six in the top fifty!
