When ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’ replaced ‘She Loves You’ at the top of the charts, The Beatles became the first band in British history to knock themselves off the top spot. And as the second biggest-seller of 1963 (behind ‘She Loves You’) it was the first single to have an advance orders of a million copies. • Label: Parlophone R 5084 MONO
  • Released: 8th March 1976

On the 6th February 1976 The Beatles contract with EMI expired, freeing up the company to do whatever they liked with their back catalogue. And they didn’t waste any time… their first move was to re-release EVERY single that they’d ever ever made.

The entire set of 22 singles was augmented by one brand-new one (‘Yesterday’) and released on the same day, so at one point all 23 of them were in the top 100 at the same time – in the top fifty!
